In the project Above the Time, when you open your eyes, you cannot see; when you close your eyes, the image will appear. By using the eye tracker in reverse, this project reverses our daily viewing experience, and evokes our “desire to see" while challenging the “logic of seeing". It attempts to present the most original moment of perception by “not seeing”, while internet technology intends to capture our information and dominate our vision. In modern times, we believe that we have more freedom to view what we want, but in fact, what we view has become even more controlled. In the past, capitalism has invaded the world’s natural resources. The perception and experiences of humans have now become the object of exploitation by surveillance capitalism under the illusion of freedom. “They” are the ones “looking” at us and leading us to see. Before we actually see it, “they” have already decided how we see it.
